The Hoover windtunnel has some attributes. I bought this model primarily for the bags. I am not a fan of the bagless system. There are a few pieces to put together from the box. The instructions were easy to follow. From past reviews I did not bother using the cord handle, I could see how the piece would easily break off. The "Dirt Finder" lights drove me a little crazy in the beginning. The green and red lights were easily ignored after a few uses. The machine is heavy and the diameter of the body of the vacuum is too wide to get under beds and coffee tables. The pet/stair attachment I don't care for. I lift the vacuum when I do the stairs, I have 13 steps. The hose is cumbersome to use because of the way it fits on the back of the unit. I tend to pull and reposition the hose til I get the angle I need.

Overall, the vacuum has good suction and I don't have issues with changing the bag or the cost. I would not recommend this unit to my mother-in-law because she would not be able to tolerate the weight and the heaviness of the machine to push back and forth. I have had the electrolux cannister for the last 15 years but it gets very expensive to repair.

After only a few months of owning the Hoover Savvy 7400, the switch became faulty. It would turn off during use and only stay on if I held the handle at a particular angle while vacuuming (not an easy task). It has now reached the point were it will not stay on at all during use. I plan on replacing the switch, but unfortunately it requires soldering. I see that I am not the only one who has had this problem. I would not recommend this product.

I bought a Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel Bagless with Powered Hand Tool (Model U6637-960) in July 2007. I was reasonably happy with it until the motor burned out last week - just 4 months past the warranty date. I have a two-bedroom apartment; this Hoover received very moderate use. Of course I checked for problems with the roller, belts, and visible clogs. The dirt cup had been recently emptied. The next step would have been to take it to a dealer for repair.



I'm finished with Hoovers. I now have a Bissell Momentum Bagless (Model 82G7-1) that I quite like, so far. It is much lighter weight than the Hoover, and easier to maneuver. One of the features I liked about the Hoover was the powered hand tool attachment. The Bissell has the same type of attachment (TurboBrush). Suction through both the base the attachment hose is very good - better than the Hoover. The dirt cup is separate from the filter (unlike the Hoover) and easier to remove and empty. On the down side, the Bissell's dirt cup is smaller and has to be emptied frequently. I paid [...] for the Hoover (Costco, with coupon). I paid [...] for the Bissell (Kohl's, on sale with coupon).

The on-off switch did not work properly because its internal workings are plastic and do not fit perfectly. If the handle is not tightly connected to the body, the switch does not work. I took this to a dealer repair shop where it would work there but as soon as I brought it home it stopped after a few times. The propeller switch broke. Finally the the beater brush switch stopped working. The reliability and workmanship is terrible. I have had it for about a year and got it as a gift.

I bought the Hoover Wind Tunnel Cyclone, Model UH70035B today from Costco and after assembly found the brush would not rotate. The On/Off foot switch didn't engage correctly. Very disappointed in Hoover's quality of this product. I'll return it to Costco tomorrow and exchange for another brand of vacuum. This is the second Hoover product that I've purchased in the last year and will be my last.

I am a big fan of Amazon reviews. This is where I go to research a product, even when I am not BUYING from Amazon. Sadly, this was one time I didn't even think about researching. I just assumed the Windtunnel series was always excellent. I've owned a Hoover Windtunnel since they first came out and have always been very satisfied. When I purchased this model, I fully expected it to be at least the same level of convenience as the past models. Not only is this vacuum LOUD, but it is clunky, the extension hose is a nuisance to get on and off and there is no place onboard the vacuum for the hard floor attachment, which means that I'm either having to stop and grab it, or I'm holding it in my hand if I need to clean a spot that is carpeted. As with every other review, the dirt container is infuriatingly difficult to empty and there IS a lot of fine, dusty sort of dirt collected behind the hepa filter. I don't have another vacuum, so cleaning up after this one is time consuming and just makes me frustrated. Another bad thing about the design of this vacuum is the handle and hose. I could not return this product to the store because while putting it together I accidentally snapped off the small piece of plastic that holds the hose to the machine. Because I don't have this part, the hose is ALWAYS getting in the way of my vacuuming. I've had to extend the handle to it's tallest level just so I'm not walking on the hose! It's also a very difficult vacuum to move around. Have I said that I hate this thing? Hoover has completely lost my business. My husband says I'm stuck with this one until it dies. Thankfully, if the other reviews are accurate, I'll have to shop for another vacuum in about 6 months when the engine quits. Shame on Hoover!

I've had this vacuum for about 8 months now and I have to say it's pretty good. We have a dog and 2 cats, so I needed something to handle the hair, and this vacuum really does. (Though I probably should have gotten the bagless version, since we go through bags VERY quickly!) It has a nice long power cord, and a long hose to use with the wand or brushes. I like the power brush for vacuuming my sofa--it really gets the pet hair! I use all the attachments all the time, switching back and forth between the upright and the hose/wand, and it's not much of a hassle. Works great on carpet; see below for my hard floor suggestion. It is a good value for the money, and if you have a Hoover store or service center nearby there's no packing up and shipping if it needs a repair (like with a Dyson).



My main complaint about this vacuum is that the hose is attached to the vacuum too high on the body, so that when you're using the hose, the vacuum constantly tips over. This could be remedied with the hose coming out of the base instead. (Hoover, are you listening??) It is also a little on the heavy side, but I think that sort of comes with the territory....



A few tips:

-I bought a hard floor brush to use with the wand--I like this better than running the upright over my wood floors. It also works better on lightweight rugs.

-If the suction is too strong on your area rugs (you will know because you'll be sweating and the vacuum will start to smoke and/or stink!), take the vacuum back to Hoover. My guy there changed out the beater bar to one with softer brushes and it made a huge difference! I'm not struggling with the vacuum anymore.

-Make sure to tip the handle forward before flipping the switch between carpet & hard floor, and also before turning on and off the self-propel. This will prevent some damage.

-When you pick up the vacuum, do so with the handle provided for that purpose, don't pick it up by the main handle. This will also prevent damage.



Hoping this vacuum stands the test of time better than the ones I've had before it. We'll see!

....but it died today. It caught fire somehow. We got this vac for our wedding almost 9 years ago and even the day it died it was working perfectly. After about 7 years though, the attachments and overall logistics and plastic parts of the machine are age appropriate: hoses aren't staying stuck together as well, filter door latch broke and swings open, some screws are missing. This sort of thing doesn't make me think it's a bad model, or anything, it's just an age thing. We are a military family and this vac has moved around the country (in moving trucks, with movers abusing it) and has performed well on all floor types. It's heavy, and sort of cumbersome, but I am so happy with how long it lasted and how long it's done a great job. I have not once wished it picked up dirt better and have often cursed it because it sucked up something that I thought was out of it's range (powerful!) we vacuum with this 2-3 times per week (2 small kids, and cats) on 1500 sq ft of carpet(60%) and linoleum/hardwoods(40%) (this is pretty much the standard base house ratio) I have accidentally sucked up marbles, screws, socks and even a scarf with it's powerful suction in both the tubes and the beater bar. I'm sad I need to buy a new one. four stars because it's heavy and I hate lugging it up the stairs,I wish it had a stairs attachment, and because I hate spending the money on bags!!! it can cost $10 for 2 type Y bags (which this one takes)

Worked well for a few months and it does have really good suction from the hose. However, over time the spinning brush got less and less effective and now will not work at all making it pretty much useless.



I have had much less expensive vacuums last much longer.

I've had mine a few months. Bought it brand new. My house is not overly difficult to clean and I have no pets.



I have had nothing but problems with this unit and I'm about to buy a Dyson or some other premium machine.



This thing loses suction after vacuuming half the floor. A really bad design.



The final straw is that they power switch no longer works. I am an intelligent person with an engineering degree, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to take this thing apart to diagnose the problem.



Do not buy one of these.
